Refreshing Blackberry Basil Lemonade Recipe šŸ‹šŸŒæšŸ«

When the temperature rises or cools, there’s nothing better than enjoying a nice refreshing lemonade. This Blackberry Basil Lemonade combines the tartness of fresh lemons with the sweet juiciness of blackberries and the aromatic and minty earthiness of the basil. I hope you enjoy this recipe and how I’ve prepared it!

Ingredients You’ll Need

To make this Blackberry Basil Lemonade, gather the following:

  • About 1 1/2 cup fresh blackberries (plus extra for garnish)

  • About 6-8 lemons freshly squeezed!

  • 1 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)

  • 6-8 cups cold water

  • 10 fresh basil leaves

  • Ice cubes

Using fresh ingredients will give you the best flavor. If you prefer a less sweet drink, reduce the sugar or substitute with honey or agave syrup.

Step-by-Step Preparation

Follow these simple steps to create your refreshing blackberry basil lemonade:

  1. Make the blackberry puree

Using a wooden mortar and pestle, combine your blackberries into the mortar. Continue to work in the blackberries slowly smashing to turn it into a ā€œpureeā€ or smashed mixture. If you find this method too difficult I encourage you to boil the blackberries down with some water and sugar to get yourself a puree blend of your liking.

  2. Prepare the basil

Gather about 10 fresh basil leaves. Finely chop your basil leaves, exposing more surface area and releasing the aromatic and natural flavors from the herb. Then, grab your mortar and pestle and continue to crush until it looks like a pesto blend.

  3. Mix the lemonade

In a large pitcher, combine the lemon juice, blackberry ā€œpureeā€, basil ā€œpestoā€, and the cold water. Stir well to mix all the flavors and add the recommended sweetener or your sweetener of choice (optional).

  4. Chill and serve

Add ice cubes to the pitcher or individual glasses. Garnish with fresh blackberries and basil leaves for a beautiful presentation.

Storing and Leftovers

Store any leftover lemonade in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 5-7 days. Stir before serving as ingredients may settle. Avoid leaving it out at room temperature for long to keep it fresh and safe.
